MTN Nigerian logo. Share 'N' Sell
Sometimes you may have airtime in your MTN SIM card and feel like helping someone that is in need to top up. You may wonder how to do that and that may be the reason you landed on this page. This kind of service is officially known as Share 'N' Sell. The process to transfer your airtime from your own MTN SIM card to another is as follow:

  • Send 0000 New pin New pin to 777. Example: 0000 1999 1999 to 777. Be conscious of the space as the command will not work out if you do not space the set of numbers.
  • You will get a feedback from MTN Nigeria
  • Then send Transfer, recipient's phone number, amount you are transferring, and your pin to 777. Example "Transfer 07037278694 1200 1999" to 777. Please do not use the inverted commas when doing that as I used it to draw a point.
  • You will receive a feedback from MTN asking you to reply YES if you really want to proceed.
  • Then type YES and send to 777 in the same message thread.
  • Make sure that the 'YES' is written in capital letter to avoid getting error message.

How to Transfer Credit from an MTN Phone Number using Codes

This is another approach to use to carry out Share 'N' Sell service on MTN network. Many people may prefer to use this approach because it is kind of of short and simple. But know that you must have created your new pin first using the SMS approach before you can use this method.

All you have to do is to dial *600*Recipient’s Number*Amount you are sending*your PIN# on your phone. For example, dial *600*07037278694*300*1999#. When you do this, you will get a feedback from the service provider on whether that went through or not.

The Transaction Fees in MTN Share and Sell Service

Anytime you decide to send money in the form of credit from your MTN Phone number to another, it is important to know that you are charged little money. Even before the network company carryout with the charge, they first ask you for approval. If you do not agree with them, you can cancel or decline the transaction. Is that a surprise to you 😂? This is Nigeria but the charge is minimal. So you can continue with the transaction.

When an MTN customer is transferring airtime from his or her phone which is between N1 to N100 (one naira to hundred naira), the customer is charged N3 (three naira only). Any transfer between N101 to N500 (one hundred to 500 naira) receives transaction charge of N5 (five naira only). And transfer of between N501 to N500 receives transaction charge of N10.

What is the Maximum Amount to Transfer in MTN Share 'N' Sell?

There is limit to the amount of airtime customers can transfer from their phone to another. According to MTN, the maximum amount a customer can transfer in a day is N10,000 (ten thousand naira). According to the company, you can transfer a maximum of N5,000 (five thousand naira only) in a single transaction.

Lets say for instance that you want to transfer ten thousand naira airtime to a person that uses MTN line, you can do that twice. You transfer five thousand naira first (N5,000) and then transfer another five thousand in the second transaction. That is how the company structured the command. If you try to initiate more than five thousand naira once, you will receive an error massage.

Also, it is important to know that this transaction or service does not allow the transfer of kobo. Take for example that you want to make a transfer of N500.30 to someone using MTN account, such transaction cannot go through. The system is programmed in a way that you can only transfer whole numbers. You can only transfer in naira and not in kobo. From the example, the best you can do will be to transfer N500 or N501.

When an MTN Customer cannot use Share 'N' Sell

Is there any condition where an MTN customer cannot use Share 'N' Sell service? Is there any condition that an MTN account user cannot transfer credit from his MTN number to another. The answer is yes there is. If you are on MTN Betatalk plan, you will not be able to share credit with another MTN account user.

First is that you have to know the tariff you are into. This will let you know whether you can carryout Share 'N' Sell transaction or not. You can do this by dialing *123#, then select "Account information" followed by "My Tariff Plan". MTN network will immediately send you message on the tariff you are into.

If you are on Betatalk plan and really want to migrate to another plan so that you can be able to transfer, you can do so. You can migrate to other plans that allow you to do the credit transfer. If you have not migrated to another for the past one month, you will not be charged. You can dial *406*1# for pulse;*408# for XtraSpecial; *123*2*1# & *131*2# for XtraValue bundles.

How to Change Share 'N' Sell Pin in MTN Line

Sometimes you may feel like changing your pin for transfer on MTN network. This is something simple to do. Sometimes MTN account users do this because their pins are weak. And others do that because someone already know their pins. To change you MTN Nigeria Share and Sell pin, do this:

  • <Old PIN><New PIN><New PIN> to 777. Example is 1999 1256 1256 then send to 777.
